Microsoft Teams will shortly be provided with Outlook's new calendar application, which will be available as an optional additional feature. The new calendar app will be available to Microsoft Teams users in November 2024.
The new calendar app in Teams will be a unified calendar that works across Outlook for Windows, Outlook on the web, Microsoft Places, and Microsoft Teams. It will include productivity features and innovations such as Microsoft Copilot, which will assist users in managing their schedules, preparing for meetings, and identifying optimal days for in-office collab
This new calendar in Teams is designed to feel familiar and reliable. It's basically the same calendar you'll find in Outlook – whether you use it on your Windows computer, online, or even in Microsoft Places. Now, it's also available in Teams!
After this update, you'll see a new option at the top right of your calendar in Teams. It’ll be labeled 'New calendar. This new version is turned off by default, so you can choose to try it out if you want.
You can easily find meeting notes and recaps right in the calendar. It'll also show you the weather for your area. If you use Microsoft Places, your work plans will be integrated, so you can see where you're working and who else is around.
There's a cool feature called 'Place finder' that lets you explore different floors and rooms in your office when you're planning events. And if you want to do multiple things at once, you can just right-click the calendar icon to open it in a separate window."
The new calendar application will be accessible to all users in January 2025. It is not necessary for administrators to do much to prepare, even if they do not wish to trial the new functionality at an early stage. It will be enabled for all users automatically.
Earlier this year, in April, we implemented a new feature that facilitates the connection of Teams and Outlook. The latest version of the software allows users to 'follow' a Teams meeting invite in Outlook, which is similar to indicating that they will attend. Previously, the only options were to accept, decline, or maybe.
